Changing Reporting Frequency

This help article covers how to change the reporting frequencies (monthly, quarterly, yearly) on Silverfin.

You need to be very careful if you require to change the reporting frequency on Silverfin as there is a risk of losing data if work has already been done in the client file. Be aware of the following;

  • All files in Silverfin will be setup with an annual period by default.
  • If we prepare VAT or management accounts for the client we will need change the reporting frequency to either Quarterly or Monthly. See steps on how to do this below.
  • IMPORTANT - Never reduce the reporting frequency of a file as doing so will result in loss of data. If you are unsure about this in any way please get in touch with the Silverfin Experts.

    You can change from Year -> Quarter -> Month but you cannot go back down the way Month -> Quarter -> Year if previous period data has already been completed.

How to change the reporting frequency

  • Go to the Client Overview screen, Edit Client, Periods.  Scroll down to "Report By" and make change as required.

VAT periods do not run in line with the year end

If the VAT quarters do not run in line with the month end then the file will need to be set up as monthly. This will allow all the VAT quarter ends to show and also the accounts year end.

Example:

  • Year end = March, VAT quarters = May, Aug, Nov, Feb, Reporting frequency = Monthly
  • Year end = March, VAT quarters = Jun, Sept, Dec, Mar, Reporting frequency = Quarterly

Year ends which do not end on the last day of the month

If the business has a year end which is not the last day of the month such as 5 April, 28 Nov and this is also a VAT client then you should contact the Silverfin Experts.

If the file has not yet had the sync set up or data imported we are able to update this ourselves;
